Privacy
We collect as little as we can, and we never sell it.
Reading the site
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which stories are read, how far, and where readers come from. It sets cookies and records your approximate location, device and browser, not your name. Google keeps this data under its own terms. We also count article views on our own server, by day, without storing who you are. You can block analytics with your browser’s privacy settings or an extension; the site works the same.
The newsletter
If you sign up for The Standard Brief we keep your email address, the date and the page you signed up on. We use it only to send the Brief. Every email will include a way to leave, or you can write to us and we will delete your address.
Nominations for The Eight Thousanders
We keep the nomination, your name and how to reach you. We use them only to assess the nominee and to verify details with you, and we delete them after the list is published.
Emails to us
Messages to our addresses are kept in our mailbox. Please do not send confidential documents by email. Tips are not shared outside the editors.
Who handles the data
The Nepal Standard is responsible for the data described here. Some companies process it for us: Cloudflare, which delivers the site and protects it from attacks; our hosting provider, whose servers are in Europe; Resend, which sends our emails; and Google, for analytics. Your data may therefore be processed outside Nepal. None of them may use it for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
Newsletter addresses are kept until you leave the list. Nominations are deleted after the list is published. Our server’s access logs, which record IP addresses for security, are deleted after 14 days. Daily view counts contain no personal data and are kept.
